The Career Mapping Workbook, explained
You know the role you want. Your applications aren't converting. This is the workbook I built for that situation: what's inside, how it works and whether it's right for you.
Why I built it
Most people who come to me already have a target. A promotion, a move into a new function, a role at a particular kind of company. What they don't have is a clear answer to one question: why am I not landing it?
They have usually tried the obvious fixes. Another course. Another CV rewrite. More applications. When those don't work, the reason is rarely that they are unqualified. The reason is that nobody has named the specific gap between where they are and where they want to be.
The Career Mapping Workbook™ takes you through the same sequence I use in a private Career Mapping Strategy session, in a format you complete on your own.
Who it's for
It's for you if
- You know the role you want next
- You've been applying and getting few or no callbacks
- You're aiming for a promotion or a move into a new function
- You want to understand the problem before you spend money fixing it
Start somewhere else if
- You're still deciding which direction to take. Book a discovery call instead.
- You want someone to write your CV for you. See my one-on-one services.
How it works: seven stages, three phases
Each stage feeds the next, so you work through them in order.
Clarity Where you are now
You start with a snapshot of your career as it stands: your role, level, experience and how long you've been trying to move. Then you look at the pattern across your whole career, because patterns are what hiring managers buy.
Evidence What you have actually delivered
You list what you know, what you can do, what you've delivered and what people trust you with. Then you record your proof of value: the situation, your responsibility, what you did and what changed. No adjectives.
Target The one role you are going after
You commit to one target role. Aiming at several roles at once makes it hard for any single application to speak clearly to the person reading it.
Fit How you score against it
You use the Bitacon Fit Scorecard to rate yourself against the requirements of that role, using the evidence you gathered in Stage 02.
Blockers The specific gap in the way
The Bitacon Blockers™ diagnostic helps you name what is standing between you and the role. Once the gap has a name, you can plan how to close it.
Positioning Whether your story matches your target
You check whether your CV, LinkedIn and interview answers tell the story your target role needs to hear, and where they don't.
Action Your Career Map and 90-day plan
You pull everything onto a one-page Career Map and build a 90-day plan made of actions that produce evidence a hiring manager can see.
What you finish with
- Bitacon Fit Scorecard. Your score against the one role you're targeting.
- Bitacon Blockers™ diagnostic. The specific gap standing between you and that role, named.
- A one-page Career Map. Your position, target, gap and next move on a single page.
- A 90-day closing plan. The actions that produce evidence a hiring manager can see.
- A worked example at every stage. You follow Naledi, a composite professional with nine years in financial services operations, targeting a Product Manager role after eight months of applications and very few callbacks.
Write down the one role you're going after. Then answer three questions:
- Which requirement in the advert do I meet least convincingly?
- Where is the evidence for it on my CV right now?
- If a hiring manager read only my CV, would they see that evidence?
If your answer to question 3 is no, you've found a blocker. Stage 05 of the workbook takes this much further.
How to get the most from it
- Set aside three to four hours in total, across two or three sittings.
- Be specific. Use numbers, project names and real outcomes. Leave out words like "excellent" and "hard-working".
- Type straight into the fillable PDF and save as you go.
- Come back to your Career Map every month and update it as things move.
Questions people ask
How much does the workbook cost?
R399. If you book a Career Mapping Strategy session with me within 30 days, the R399 comes off the session fee.
How do I get it?
Go to the Career Map page and fill in your name, email and WhatsApp number. WhatsApp opens with your details filled in. Send the message and I'll reply with payment details. Your workbook is emailed to you once payment reflects.
How long does it take?
Three to four hours in total. Most people complete it across two or three sittings.
Is it the same as a session with you?
It follows the same sequence I use in a Career Mapping Strategy session. In a session I work through your answers with you and challenge them. With the workbook, you do that thinking on your own.
I'm a graduate. Can I use it?
Yes, if you have a specific role in mind. If you're still deciding which direction to take, a session is the better place to start.
Does it only work for jobs in South Africa?
The method works wherever you're applying. The worked example is set in South African financial services, so the context will feel familiar if you work here.
